Os Vikings terminaram a sua primeira participação na Taça Fegabe com uma excelente exibição, talvez a melhor de sempre da equipa, num jogo bastante emotivo contra aquela que se viria a sagrar a equipa vice-campeã, os Caimanes de Ourense.
Desde cedo os Vikings mostraram à equipa dos Caimanes, que não iriam ser presa fácil, começando o jogo muito fortes, e chegando ao final do quinto inning a vencer por 7-2. Pelo meio, assistiu-se ao primeiro home-run da história dos Vikings, um batimento fabuloso do pitcher Jorge Castañeda.
Os Caimanes reagiram no sexto inning, marcando 8 pontos. Ainda assim, a equipa portuguesa nunca baixou os braços, e, impulsionada pela boa prestação ofensiva de Luis Vasquez (3/6), Jorge Castañeda (2/4), Sérgio Martins (2/5) e João Castro (2/4), foi encurtando a distância para a equipa espanhola. No início da nona e derradeira inning, os Vikings estavam atrás por 3 pontos. Ainda foram capazes de reduzir, por Jorge Castañeda e Sérgio Martins, mas a equipa espanhola demonstrou-se segura nos momentos fulcrais, e foi capaz de coleccionar os três derradeiros outs, apesar das ameaças dos corredores portugueses, que terminaram o jogo a ocupar segunda e terceira bases, e com o resultado em 15-14.
No cômputo geral, a prestação da equipa dos Vikings na competição foi bastante positiva e enriquecedora para os jogadores portugueses. A equipa foi capaz de se bater de igual para igual contra a maioria das equipas envolvidas, e mostrou que o baseball português tem, efectivamente, uma grande margem de progressão.

The Vikings ended their first participation in the Fegabe Cup with an excellent performance, maybe the best ever by the team, on a quite emotive game against the team who would turn out to be the cup runners up, the Ourense Caimanes.
The Vikings started early showing the Caimanes, that they weren’t there to be easy preys, beginning the game at a high pace, reaching the end of the fifth inning with a 7-2 lead. In between this Viking rush, there was time for the first team home-run in history, a fabulous two run shot by the pitcher Jorge Castañeda.
The Caimanes reacted in the sixth inning, scoring 8 runs. Yet, the Portuguese team never went down, and, stimulated by good offensive performances from Luis Vázquez (3/6), Jorge Castañeda (2/4), Sérgio Martins (2/5) and João Castro (2/4), started to shorten the distance to the Spanish team. At the top of the ninth and final inning, the Vikings were trailing by 3. They were still able to reduce, with Jorge Castañeda’s and Sérgio Martins’ runs, but the Spanish team showed defensive security at crucial moments, and was able to collect the three final outs, despite the menace posed by the Portuguese runners, who ended the game filling third and second bases, and with a final result of 15-14.
Overall, the Vikings’ performance in the competition was positive and rewarding for the Portuguese players. The team was able to dispute against the majority of the teams involved, and demonstrated that, effectively, the Portuguese baseball has a lot of margin to evolve.
