Colónia de Férias vem aprender a jogar Baseball/Kids’ Colony comes to learn Baseball

No passado dia 17 de Julho, a colónia “Férias Desportivas” de Viana do Castelo esteve presente na Vikings Arena, onde 24 crianças entre os 7 e os 12 anos tiveram o seu primeiro contacto com o Baseball.
As crianças foram divididas em duas equipas de forma a que se fizesse um jogo de T-Ball (jogo de baseball adaptado, onde se utiliza um tee para colocar a bola, facilitando assim o batimento). À medida que o jogo se foi desenrolando, o manager dos Vikings Hugo Almeida e os jogadores seniores João Azevedo e Paulo Fonseca foram ensinando as regras e alguns dos fundamentos do jogo: como segurar e bater com o taco de baseball, para onde lançar a bola ou como usar a luva.
O jogo acabou por ser muito equilibrado e emotivo, deixando todas as crianças participantes entusiasmadas e com vontade de voltar a jogar Baseball.
Esta colaboração com a colónia de férias de Viana do Castelo insere-se dentro dos programas de dinamização e divulgação do baseball, onde os Vikings têm sido extremamente activos, com actividades realizadas nas férias da Páscoa deste ano, bem como na colónia de férias e na festa de encerramento dos Jogos Inter Freguesias de Vila do Conde de 2006.
No próximo dia 23 de Julho, a partir das 14h30, a Colónia “Férias Desportivas” irá estar de novo com os Vikings, desta vez no campo sintético do Parque de Jogos de Vila do Conde, onde um novo grupo de crianças irá deliciar-se com o jogo de baseball.
Também neste mês, nos dias 24 e 26, e durante todo o dia, os Vikings vão levar o baseball até às Caxinas (Vila do Conde) e dinamizar o jogo no campo de futebol e baseball de praia, instalado em frente à Igreja dos Navegantes. Aguarda-se nova enchente de crianças para disfrutar deste magnífico desporto.

On the past July 17th, kids’ colony “Férias Desportivas” from Viana do Castelo (Portugal) was at the Vikings Arena. Twenty four kids between 7 and 12 years old had their first experience with baseball.
Children were split in two teams and a T-Ball game was played (an adapted baseball game, where a tee is used to place the baseball, making it easier to hit). As the game moved on, Vikings manager Hugo Almeida and team players João Azevedo and Paulo Fonseca teached the rules and some game fundamentals: how to hold and hit with the bat, where to throw the ball or how to use the glove.
The game turned out to be very balanced and enthusiastic, leaving all the kids excited, willing to be back later and play baseball.
This cooperation with Viana do Castelo kids’ colony is part of a Vikings program to teach and spread baseball across the country. Over the past year, the Vikings have been extremely active within the community, with Easter activities for kids and also helping out at the Vila do Conde Inter County Games and other kids’ holyday colonies.
On the next July 23rd, at 2.30 p.m., “Férias Desportivas” colony will be back again with the Vikings, this time on the turf field of “Games Park” in Vila do Conde. A new group of kids will delight themselves with baseball.
Also in July, on the 24th and 26th, and during all day, the Vikings will bring baseball to Caxinas beach (Vila do Conde). The baseball activities for kids will take place at a special baseball/soccer beach field, located right in front of Navegantes Church. A new wave of enthusiastic kids is expected to participate and enjoy this wonderful sport.
