Teve hoje a início a segunda edição da Vikings Baseball Summer League, um torneio que notabilizou os Vikings no ano transacto pela ideia inovadora em Portugal. A julgar pelo primeiro dia de competição, é bem possível que tenhamos em mãos um torneio ainda mais competitivo e emocionante que o de 2006.
O primeiro dia, ao contrário da edição anterior, foi dedicado exclusivamente aos jogos do escalão Minor League. Num dia de Verão bastante agradável, realçou-se a forte adesão espanhola manifestada pela equipa dos Halcones de Vigo, que se fez deslocar à Vikings Arena com praticamente toda o seu roster junior. Os jogadores inscritos foram divididos em equipas de 7 elementos cada, sendo o pitcher substituído por uma pitching machine, e o catcher por um jogador da organização que ocupava o lugar em ambas as equipas. Assistiram-se a 3 jogos pautados pelo equilíbrio, com muitos pontos marcados, mas sempre com incerteza no resultado até ao final. Acabaram por se apurar para a final as equipas dos Rangers e dos Pirates, tendo os Cardinals perdido os dois jogos que efectuaram por uma margem bastante curta.

Cardinals 3, Pirates 8
Pirates 6, Rangers 12
Amanhã terão lugar as competições individuais do Batting Cage Challenge, na Batting Cage dos Vikings, seguida do concurso de Pitch, Hit & Run na Vikings Arena, que precede a grande final do escalão Minor League. Esperamos vê-lo por cá!

The second edition of the Vikings Baseball Summer League began today, repeating and improving an innovate idea in Portugal the Vikings had last season. Judging by the first day of competition, it is quite possible that we are witnessing an even better tournament than the first.
The first day, unlike last year, was entirely dedicated to Minor League games. In a very pleasant summer day, one could note the strong Spanish adhesion through the Halcones de Vigo team, who brought practically their entire junior roster. The players were divided in teams of 7, having the pitcher been substituted by a pitching machine, and the catcher being an element of the staff who played the position for both teams. We were able to watch 3 very close matches, with a lot of runs scored, but always with an uncertainty about the final result. The Rangers and Pirates were the teams who made it to the final, having the Cardinals lost both games by a thin margin.

Rangers 8, Cardinals 7
Cardinals 3, Pirates 8
Pirates 6, Rangers 12
Tomorrow there will be the individual competitions of the Batting Cage Challenge, in the Vikings’ Batting Cage, followed by the Pitch, Hit & Run contest in the Vikings Arena, who precedes the final of the Minor League. We hope to see you around!
