À terceira foi de vez.
Os Vikings quebraram o jejum de vitórias desta época e alcançaram o seu primeiro triunfo na Taça Fegabe, num jogo realizado no passado Domingo contra os Druidas da Corunha, na Vikings Arena (Vila do Conde).
A equipa dos Druidas iniciou bem o jogo, tendo marcado o seu primeiro run por Javier Villamarin logo na primeira inning do encontro. O pitcher dos Vikings Jorge Castañeda não se deixou intimidar pelo feito e de rajada colocou três strikeouts looking (sem tentativa de batimento dos adversários) consecutivos ao "coração" da ordem de batimento espanhola, em jeito de preparação para o festim de runs que os Vikings viriam a fazer no fundo da primeira inning:
- Alfredo Carvalho abriu com um single para terceira e roubou segunda.
- João Azevedo fez um double para left, marcando Carvalho.
- Jorge Castañeda fez um single para center, marcando Azevedo.
- David Rodriguez foi strikeout (1 out)
- Emmanuel Gonçalves chegou à base num erro de lançamento do 3ª Base e avançou para segunda, Castañeda marcou devido ao erro.
- Pedro Gonçalves ganhou uma base por bolas.
- João Castro fez um single para left, Emmanuel Gonçalves marcou num erro do Leftfield.
- Hermínio Neto fez um single para center, marcando Pedro Gonçalves.
- Bruno Rebelo chegou à base num infield hit para o pitcher, enchendo as bases.
- Alfredo Carvalho chegou à primeira por erro do Shortstop, marcando Castro.
- João Azevedo voltou a fazer um hit, desta vez um single para center, marcando Neto e num erro do Centerfield, Rebelo e Carvalho marcaram também.
- Jorge Castañeda repetiu um single, desta vez para o leftfield, marcando Azevedo.
- David Rodriguez chegou à base num erro de lançamento do 3ª Base e avançou para segunda, Castañeda marcou devido ao erro.
- Emmanuel Gonçalves foi flyout para o leftfield (2 out)
- Pedro Gonçalves fez um hit para short e Rodriguez marcou numa distracção defensiva do Primeira Base.
- João Castro foi ground out para o pitcher (3 out)
E os Vikings não olharam mais para trás.
Nas segunda e terceira innings a equipa portuguesa não pontuou, voltando a descarregar o seu poder ofensivo no fundo da quarta inning, com mais doze runs anotados.
No topo da quinta inning e com o pitcher André Silva no mound, os Druidas conseguiram amenizar a pesada derrota, anotando quatro runs.
A vitória por 24-6 estabelece um novo recorde da equipa em runs marcados (24), bem como a maior diferença pontual numa vitória (18 runs).
Alfredo Carvalho, João Azevedo, Jorge Castañeda e Luís Vázquez foram os carrascos da equipa espanhola, tendo dominado o jogo ofensivamente, ao somarem no conjunto 11 hits, 6 doubles, 12 runs e 14 RBIs.
O manager/jogador João Castro teceu no final elogios à exibição da equipa, salientando o trabalho desenvolvido na semana que antecedeu o jogo - " Insistimos no treino de batimento durante toda a semana. Isso revelou-se decisivo para a vitória neste encontro. O trabalho árduo compensou", referiu João Castro.
O próximo jogo dos Vikings (1-2) é já no próximo Domingo, dia 22 de Abril, Domingo, às 11h00, na Vikings Arena (Vila do Conde), contra a já conhecida equipa de Cambre, actual líder da prova.

Third time's the charm.
The Vikings broke their victory slump this season and won for the first time in the Fegabe Cup, in a game played last Sunday against the Coruña Druidas, at the Vikings Arena (Vila do Conde, Portugal).
Javier Villamarin tried to jump-start the Druidas, scoring a run on the top of the first inning. However, Vikings pitcher Jorge Castañeda was not upset by it and struck out looking the heart of the spanish team in order, setting up the stage for the run parade that the Vikings would be hosting in the bottom of the first inning:
- Alfredo Carvalho reached first on an error by the Shortstop, scoring Castro.
- João Azevedo singled to center, scoring Neto. Rebelo and Carvalho scored on an error by the Centerfielder.
- Jorge Castañeda singled to left, scoring Azevedo.
- David Rodriguez reached first on a throwing error by the Third Baseman and advanced to second. Castañeda scored on the error.
- Emmanuel Gonçalves flyed out to left (2 out)
- Pedro Gonçalves singled on an infield hit to short, Rodriguez scored on a defensive misplay by the First Baseman.
- João Castro grounded out to the pitcher (3 out)
And the Vikings never looked back.
In the second and third innings the portuguese team didn't scored, unleashing its offensive power again on the fourth inning, when the Vikings scored another twelve runs.
On the top of the fifth, and with André Silva on the mound, the Druidas scored four runs, hampering an heavy loss.
The 24-6 victory establishes a new team record for runs scored (24) and the most lopsided victory for the Vikings (plus 18 runs).
Alfredo Carvalho, João Azevedo, Jorge Castañeda and Luís Vázquez tormented the spanish team, dominating the game offensively, summing up 11 hits, 6 doubles, 12 runs and 14 RBIs.
João Castro, the manager/player, gave compliments to the team performance, pointing out the good work that was made throughout the week - "We focused on batting practice all over the week. That turned out to be decisive in our win. Hard work paid off", said João Castro.
The next game for the Vikings (1-2) is scheduled to start next Sunday, April 22nd, 11 a.m, at the Vikings Arena (Vila do Conde), against the Cambre Baseball team, the current Cup leaders.

The Vikings broke their victory slump this season and won for the first time in the Fegabe Cup, in a game played last Sunday against the Coruña Druidas, at the Vikings Arena (Vila do Conde, Portugal).
